2008: a big year for GCCG
GCCG is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2008 - a scary thought for those of us who can remember going to its first events back in
1988 when a few gay classic car fans living in London thought that they would try having a small display at Gay Pride to see if there was
any response. Since that time the Club has grown to nearly 500 members and partners. Introducing an online signup facility last year has
accelerated our rate of growth, and our latest news is that we are offering a prize of a year's free membership should you happen to be the 500th person to
join.
2008 has been a big year for us in another way - we hosted Eurotour which is an annual gathering of gay classic car enthusiasts from all
over the world. The venue for this event rotates between the UK, Netherlands, France, Germany and now, for the first time in 2009, Denmark.
Since our turn to host Eurotour coincided with our anniversary, we made a particularly big splash and attracted over 200 participants, which
also made it the largest Eurotour ever held anywhere, with visitors from as far afield as the west coast of the US. The decision has just been taken to host the next UK Eurotour in 2013, which happily coincides with our 25th Anniversary thus
affording another excuse for an even bigger party.
This year has also seen GCCG holding more regional events than ever before, with an event somewhere in the UK almost every weekend during the
peak months in the summer, and there are several monthly social meetings to keep us going through the winter too. Mind you, with our last
event in November and the first one on New Year's Day, there's not much of a closed season this year.
We also have a growing online community with an active discussion forum launched last year where members swap news, advice and gossip, and we have recently added
a facility for members to create an online profile.
We think there has never been a better time to join GCCG, but if you want to 'try before you buy' you can come to an event as our guest. Just contact your nearest Regional
Organiser via the Local Contact page, or via mail@gccg.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you soon!
