About Us

The Gay Classic Car Group started informally in 1988 when a group of friends who owned a variety of cars met one lunchtime. This resulted in several ad hoc meetings, culminating in a 12 car London to Brighton run.

The next year there were 5 cars at London Pride, where more than 20 people enrolled as new members, and by 1990 over 40 people attended a meeting in Surrey.

More recently, GCCG membership has grown steadily to over 800 members and partners, and unlike many one-make car clubs, we have seen a year on year increase in membership since 2005 - so we must be doing something right!

The 'GCCG effect' has spread across the country, more than three quarters of our membership resides outside of the London area, which has in turn led to new regions being created, and new area organisers recruited to manage the growing family of members.

The charts on the right of the page give you a glimpse as to the make up of the club, and the rapid increase in membership since 2005. All these charts are correct as at December 2012, and we hope to update these annually

Just a few interesting facts:

  • 76% of the membership reside outside of the London area.
  • 32% of the membership are aged less than 50.
  • There are over 1100 cars in the club (including daily drivers)
  • You don't need to own a classic car to join.
  • We're 25 years old this year (2013)

Why not head over to our 'FAQs' page, where you'll find some more interesting facts about the club, if you have any other questions do not hesitate to contact us on the email address shown below.

If you've read enough already, why not come and join us.

Come on in the water's fine. ;-)

We try very hard to make the club welcoming and fun for new members, and if you want to “try before you buy”, just email events@gccg.org.uk to come along to an event near you.
